Do Back Collars Pose Any Danger To The Animals?

There are three different methods currently in use as no bark collars for dogs. These three versions of dog collars serve their purpose well, but some people wonder if they really do not hurt the animal at all. If you have a dog that barks very often, then you must have all the information of these tools you can use on your pet.

Citronella Spray Collars

This type of no bark collars pulverize citrus substance under the dog's chin if it barks for too long. The citrus spray collar is very effective because most dogs dislike this smell. Some types of citrus spray collars make a hissing sound before spraying the substance, so that the dog can stop barking even sooner once it learns what the hiss means. The citrus spray collars do not hurt the dog, they merely annoy it.

Collars With Ultrasonic/Sonic Mechanisms

Ultrasonic or sonic dog collars will emit a high pitched tone if the dog barks. This sound is like the one created by dog whistles. Usually people do not hear it, but dogs get easily annoyed by the noise and tend to stop barking once they learn this is how they can silence the device. Experts say that the sonic collar is ethical. Once again, there is no pain involved – it’s just a bit annoying for the dog. Because dogs can easily adapt to many environments, they are likely to get used to the sound and learn to ignore it. This is why the sonic device is not as effective as its alternatives.

Electronic Bark Collars

When the electronic collar “hears” the dog bark, it gives the dog a mild electrical shock. The shock does not threaten the health of the dog and produces a discomfort comparable to the static shocks felt by humans. This shock only irritates the dog; however, many people believe that purchasing and using it on a dog is unethical. This one isn’t just an annoyance; it physically does something to the dog. Some people don’t like that. Nonetheless, the electronic dog collar is extremely efficient so, if you own a dog that barks all the time, you may consider it a viable solution.

As a dog owner, you can choose from three versions of no bark dog collars - the electronic one, the sonic or ultrasonic device or the citrus bark collar. Citronella spray and sonic or ultrasonic sounds are considered ethical, but electronic shock collars are sometimes considered unethical because of the shocking. All in all, no aforementioned solution is harmful to your dog.
